IEC TC 8B

IEC SC 8B – Decentralized Electrical Energy Systems
IEC Subcommittee 8B (IEC SC 8B) develops International Standards for decentralized electrical energy systems, including distributed generation, microgrids, and smart energy networks.
These standards define technical requirements for integration, control, protection, and interoperability of decentralized power sources such as solar PV, wind turbines, energy storage systems, and hybrid energy systems.
IEC SC 8B publications support reliable operation and coordination between local energy systems and the main power grid.
List of Standard (IEC TC 8B):
- IEC 62898-1:2017 Microgrids – Part 1: Guidelines for microgrid projects planning and specification
- IEC 62898-2:2018 Microgrids – Part 2: Guidelines for operation
- IEC 62898-3-3:2023 Microgrids – Part 3-3: Technical requirements – Self-regulation of dispatchable loads
- IEC 62898-3-4:2023 Microgrids – Part 3-4: Technical requirements – Microgrid monitoring and control systems
- IEC 62898-4:2023 Microgrids – Part 4: Use cases
- IEC 63189-1:2023 Virtual power plants – Part 1: Architecture and functional requirements
